Dehydrated Skin
Based on your answers you have dehydrated skin.
Dehydrated skin is condition caused by a lack of water and is characterized by a more than normal or even excessive amount of sebum (oil) your skin’s surface. Despite this excess sebum your skin still feels tight or dry everywhere on your face, and these signs are often accompanied by flaking.
Dehydrated skin can be caused by several factors, more often than not it's the result of using skincare products that contain harsh or skin-sensitizing ingredients. It can also develop from using the wrong products for your skin, which leads to an imbalance.
Step 1: Cleanser
One of the most common exogenous (i.e. outside) factors that can cause epidermal damage is over-washing especially when combined with use of poorly formulated or harsh cleansers. Maintaining healthy skin pH, which is around 4.7, is crucial for getting your moisture barrier back up and running so use a gentle and pH-balanced cleanser.
Step 2: Toner
Use replenishing toners rather then skin-stripping, alcohol- or witch hazel-based. For your skin condition toners should give back, not take away from skin.
Step 3: Exfoliation
You cannot treat dehydrated skin with chemical exfoliation. Over-exfoliation can damage your skin’s surface and strip away moisture.
Gentle physical exfoliation can be beneficial by helping remove a build up a dead skin cells, which cause clogged pores and lead to acne.
Exfoliation should be performed sparingly (once or twice a week).
Step 4: Serum
You want to deliver hydration and seal it in and you can accomplish this by using a serum with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a powerful humectant that binds moisture to the skin. Squalane and alpha hydroxy acids are great ingredients as well.
Step 5: Moisturizer
Use a lightweight hyaluronic acid based moisturizer, a moisturizing gel or squalane Oil to strengthen and preserve your skin’s moisture barrier.
Step 7: SPF
Use an SPF of 30 or greater 365 days a year. When skin is compromised from unprotected sun exposure, it makes it less able to hold moisture.
Pro tip: Never leave your skin bare. As soon as you’re done cleansing your face, don’t wait to apply your serum and moisturizer to really lock in skin’s moisture. Also using a humidifier would be beneficial to your skin.
